Experiential Learning Outdoors!

The Idaho Botanical Garden is a nonprofit living museum dedicated to furthering science education and environmental stewardship in the Treasure Valley and beyond. Our goal is to nurture a fascination with the natural world through a variety of hands-on outdoor programs including on-site field trips. Our programs include multiple learning stations lead by an IBG Educator. Programs are $5 per person and pre-registration is required.

Pre-K:

  • Meet Idaho Early Learning Guidelines
  • We can accommodate up to 20 learners per time slot
  • 75-minute program

K, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade:

  • Meet Idaho Content Standards
  • We can accommodate up to 60 learners per time slot
  • 90-minute program

Seed to Plant - Pre K

Learners will discover the lifecycle of a plant by participating in hands-on activities. They will engage in an interactive story, sort seeds, and plant a seed that will grow to become part of the Garden’s collection.

5 Senses Exploration - Pre K

Using their 5 senses, young learners will explore the Garden and practice using their observational and motor skills. They will be able to taste plants, sort seeds, and make music all while learning about plants.

Sprouts: All About
Growing - Grade K

Students will learn about what plants need to live and grow, investigate compost to see that it is alive, and visit a unique part of the Garden.

Idaho Content Standards: K-LS-1.1 and K-ESS-2.1

Ready, Set, Grow - Grade 1

Students will learn about different plant characteristics, the function of plant parts, and apply their knowledge by labeling parts of plants in our Vegetable Garden.

Idaho Content Standard: 1-LS-1.1

Habitat Investigations - Grade 2

Students will learn how to use a tool and apply their observation skills to identify different plants and animals in the Garden based on their similarities and differences.

Idaho Content Standard: 2-LS-2.1

Flower Power - Grade 3

Students will learn about the parts of a flower involved in reproduction, utilize a microscope, learn about pollinator preferences, and grow the Garden’s collection by planting a flower.

Bring payment with you on the day of your visit, cost of $5 dollars per person.

Please note: A $50 non-refundable deposit, that goes towards your group total, is needed prior to the visit to confirm the reservation. An IBG staff member will reach out for deposit.



Scholarship Opportunities & Funding Assistance

Limited scholarships (including busing reimbursement funds) are available for groups in need of financial assistance. If you or your learners are in need of financial assistance, please complete the scholarship form. We will reach out to you with more information. Request for funding will be awarded by the Idaho Botanical Garden based on our commitment to prioritizing providing opportunities to under-served populations and learners.
