Web Privacy Notice

Last Updated: 01/01/2025

The Idaho Botanical Garden (the “Garden,” “we,” “our,” “us”) is committed to respecting your privacy. In this Privacy Notice, we describe how we collect, use, and disclose information about you when you visit our website (www.idahobotanicalgarden.org) and its collected pages that we control); use our website to purchase a Garden membership or make an online purchase from or donation to the Garden; register for Idaho Botanical garden camps or events; or otherwise interact with us, whether digitally or in-person.

Our mission at the Garden is to grow our community by connecting people, plants, and nature. Communicating with and understanding our visitors, members, and donors helps us fulfil this mission. We collect, use, and share information about you to provide you with knowledge about the Garden, to provide you with Garden services and events, and to carry out the Garden’s operations.

We strive to be respectful and transparent about what information we collect from you and how we use it. Please read this Privacy Notice carefully. Your use of the Gardens’ website or otherwise interacting with us indicates your acceptance of this Privacy Notice.
When You Visit Our Website
When you visit the Garden’s website, our servers automatically log information that relates to you and your device. This includes information like your device’s IP address, non-precise location data, web browser type, the source that referred you to our website, and information about how you’ve interacted with the website. We record this information primarily to help keep our website safe, but we may also use it to understand how users interact with our website.

We also collect any information you enter into our website, such as when you purchase tickets for events or admission, purchase a membership, complete our online feedback form, or register to volunteer at the Garden.
Memberships and Donations
When you purchase admission or event tickets from us, purchase or renew a membership with us, or make a donation to the Garden, whether online or in-person, we will ask you to provide us with the information we need to process your request, acknowledge your contribution, and provide your membership and admission benefits. This information includes your name and names of other members on your account, billing and/or mailing addresses, telephone number, email address, and credit card information.

Your credit card information will be used only as needed to process your transaction. All credit card information you provide us is processed using a third party processing service and is stored by that provider in an encrypted format.
When you visit the Garden, we may also track your visitation history. This allows us to better understand how our visitors are using the Garden and improve our offerings.
Email Receipts and One-Time Passwords (OTP)
For your online transactions with the Garden, we will send your receipts via email. This provides you with a more convenient and environmentally friendly method for tracking your purchases and transactions with us.

To access your membership information in our website’s membership portal as well as your digital membership card, you may opt to receive an email-delivered one-time password (OTP) code. This additional layer of security helps prevent unauthorized access to your account.
Surveys
From time to time, the Garden may invite you to participate in surveys posted on the Gardens’ website, sent to you by email, or provided to you in-person. You may decide whether or not you wish to complete such surveys, which may ask about your background, occupation, or similar questions. We use this information to help us better understand our audience, which in turn allows us to better meet your needs and interests.
Information About Others
In limited circumstances, we may ask you to provide information about other people (such as an emergency contact when you register to volunteer at the Garden). When this occurs, you agree you have authority to provide us with this information.
Children 12 and Under
The Garden does not knowingly collect personal information from children 12 years of age and under. However, we do collect information about minor children, such as their names and birthdates, when necessary for their registration and participation in our youth programing such as our classes and summer camps. We may also collect the names of minor children included on an adult’s membership account. This information will only be accepted if provided by a parent, legal guardian, or other adult lawfully authorized to provide this information. The Gardens will never knowingly solicit this information directly from a child.
Gardens E-Newsletters and Updates
As a service, the Garden offers you the opportunity to subscribe to one or more of our email newsletters and receive other Garden information and updates by email. To send these, we use a third-party service provider who uses the email address you provide only to send Garden e-news to you. If you choose to subscribe to one of our email newsletters, you will receive the Gardens’ e-news and other updates on the topics you choose. You may unsubscribe at any time by following the instructions in the footer of the email.

When you sign up for Garden events or services, we may also email or mail you updates about these.
Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies
When you visit our website or open an e-newsletter or other email from us, we may use cookies, pixel tags, and other online trackers to understand how you interact with our services. Cookies are small files of information that are stored on your device’s hard drive by your Web browser. In some cases, we may use “third-party” cookies and other tracking technologies for marketing and advertising purposes. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can change the preferences of your browser so that it does not accept them.

The Garden also uses Google Analytics to help us better understand how users are interacting with our website. With certain browsers, you may install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On to prevent Google Analytics cookies from being installed and used in connection with your device.
The Use and Disclosure of the Information We Collect
The Garden uses the personal information you provide us for internal purposes and to carry out our operations, such as filling and tracking your orders, communicating with our members, visitors, and donors, analyzing trends, and collecting statistics such as visitation history. We also may use data to help us understand the impact of our advertising and donor efforts.

The Garden may also compile and provide aggregate statistics about our visitors, customers, sales, traffic patterns and related site information to third parties, but these statistics will not include any personally identifying information.
Use of Third-Party Vendors
As a small nonprofit organization, we rely on a number of third-party service providers to help us carry out our operations, such as in taking and processing orders, processing electronic payments, and communicating with you, whether through mail, email, or online. We may share your information with third parties who use it to help us run our operations; analytics technology providers; third party platforms like social media platforms who use it to help us market the Garden to you; our event partners and sponsors; and payment processors. Our vendors, partners, and sponsors may also sometimes provide us with information they have collected from you.

As an independent nonprofit community gathering space, we depend on the generosity of our donors. Accordingly, we may obtain information from third parties to identify potential donors to help contribute to and sustain the Garden.
Mail and Email Correspondence
If you have provided us with your email or postal mailing address, we may send you communications to inform you of events or activities at or related to the Gardens that we believe may be of interest to you or to alert you about sales or other promotional events at the Gardens. If you do not want us to use your postal or email address to contact you for these purposes, you may send an email message containing your name and postal address to info@idahobotanicalgarden.org or simply opt out of the email communication that you receive.
Combining Information
We may combine information you give to us online, in our store, or at the Gardens. We may also combine this information with publicly available information and information we receive from or have cross-referenced with our third-party vendors and others. We use this combined information to enhance and personalize your visitor experience with us, to communicate with you about events that may be of interest to you, for other promotional purposes, or in connection with our donor and fundraising operations.
Linking
For many events at the Garden, we work with third-party event sponsors and providers who use the Garden as a venue for their events or events presented in conjunction with us. Accordingly, the Gardens’ website may include links to websites operated by third parties over which we have no control (such as third-party ticketing services or websites for our event partners). Once you leave the Garden’s website, the Garden’s Privacy Notice does not apply, and you access such sites at your own risk. Please review the privacy page of any site operated by a third party to understand their privacy practices.
Our Advertising Partners
We may market the Garden and our events and services to you via third-party platforms, including through Facebook, LinkedIn, or Instagram.

We also sometimes market ourselves through the use of “geofencing” using a third-party provider. When this happens, our third-party provider may send you an advertisement or other marketing material based on other places you have visited that may signal your interest in the Garden. Please note that this does not involve our directly collecting any information from you.

We also measure the impact of ads we display by working with our advertising partners to track ad placements, views, delivery frequency, and conversions.
Security
At the Garden, we use a variety of measures to help protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, and disclosure.

For any online transaction with us, the Gardens’ secure server software uses industry-standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption technology. SSL encodes your personal information, including credit card number, name and address, as it travels over the Internet to help better secure your transactions with us. If you prefer, you may also place an order by phone at 208-343-8649. Summer hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Mountain Time) Monday – Sunday. Winter hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Mountain Time) Monday – Friday.

Please be aware, though, that no method of transmitting data over the internet or storing data is completely secure.
Revisions to our Privacy Policy
As the Garden grows and develops, so do our data privacy practices. Accordingly, the Garden may revise this Privacy Notice from time to time, without notice, and any changes are effective immediately upon posting. Such revisions may arise in response to changes in the law, policy, our personal information practices, or other factors. We encourage you to periodically visit this page to review our most current practices.

We may also collect other types of information not covered above if you voluntarily provide it to us or in ways that we’ll explain at the point of collection. You can choose not to provide us with certain types of information, but doing so may affect your ability to use certain Garden services.
