Garden Delights: Stories from Our Visitors

At the center of the garden’s existence, I imagine it being a place of healing. The life that pulses through each plant has the power to absorb an abundance of sorrows and turn them into joy and beauty. The events, concerts, weddings, learning, and Winter Garden aGlow are extensions of the Garden’s soul - a continuation of joy, beauty, and healing, and ultimately intrigue us to always be growing in our life experiences. The Garden brings my family together for concerts in the summer, and Winter Garden aGlow in the winter. We have a tradition to have our family picture taken there every year. With adult children and busy lives, it's difficult to bring everyone together. My family is always ready and willing to spend time together at the Idaho Botanical Garden!

I love the garden, I don't get out there as much as I did before I retired. I took some friends to the Harvest Festival for the first time this year, they loved it. I bought them a membership and they loved receiving that gift for 2024.

As a former, sometimes watercolor instructor at the Garden, I found that the Garden is a wonderful place to teach and to learn. Students had such enthusiasm and found joy in being at the Garden and learning new things. I myself have taken several classes. The opportunities to teach, to learn, to understand our world make the Garden not only a special place, but a very important one. Granted, perhaps learning to paint is not what is important, but learning to really see and know our world and care for it is.

About us

Our Story

In 1984, The Idaho Botanical Garden was established on a 32-acre site of old prison grounds leased from the Idaho State Historical Society and the State of Idaho. Local botanist Dr. Christopher Davidson assembled the first board of directors, comprised of 17 civic leaders and professionals. The Garden founders and board built an irrigation system and nature trails and planted two acres, including the Meditation, Rose, and Herb Gardens.

Since then, the Garden has gradually expanded to become the awe-inspiring destination it is today.

At the Garden, we are committed to being a force for positive, actionable change to protect and co-exist within nature, knowing our role will have a long-lasting impact on future generations.

Our vision is to be our region’s preferred space for gathering and experiencing nature and to encourage advocacy in environmental stewardship.
