Summer Botany Camp 2013


CAMP INFO

Botany Camp is a morning science program designed for children ages 4-9 to participate in games, crafts and nature walks at the Idaho Botanical Garden.

Each class meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM - noon. Cost for each class: members $65, non-members $90. The campers are divided into two classes by age. Each class is limited to 20 children and is supervised by an adult teacher and two aides.

Due to high demand, each child may register for no more than two classes. Payment is refundable up to two weeks prior to the first day of camp class, minus a $10 processing fee.

WHAT TO BRING
Children should bring a snack each day; wear closed-toed shoes and sunscreen. Following registration, you will receive a confirmation letter and an emergency medical form that must be returned the first day of camp.

Everyone Needs a Home

July 15-19, 9:00 AM - Noon
Classes: Ages 5 & 6 | Ages 7 & 8
Explore ponds, the Garden Woods, and surrounding foothills to find what lives where and what they need to survive. Investigate how your needs compare to those of plants and animals.

Nature Art
July 22-26, 9:00 AM - Noon
Classes: Ages 5 & 6
Ages 7 - 9(Camp is full)
Discover ways to make art from nature! We will use the sun's power to make prints, use clay for sculpture, paint watercolor bouquets using live flowers as inspiration and much more.

Going Buggy!
July 29-August 2, 9:00 AM - Noon
Classes: Age 4
Ages 5 & 6 - Camp is full
Go on an insect safari, capturing bugs with nets and pit traps. Learn about what makes an insect an insect and visit with their non-insect relatives, the sowbug and pillbug. See the plants that feast on insects and make a toy Venus Flytrap of your own.

Who Eats What
August 5-9, 9:00 AM - Noon
Classes: Ages 5&6 | Ages 7 - 9
We'll take a look at what animals live in the Garden, what they eat and who eats them. Discuss why animals need to eat and the different ways they do it. Feed Koi fish and harvest from the vegetable garden plants that keep people alive and healthy.

Nature Explorers
August 12-16, 9:00 AM - Noon
Classes: Age 4 | Ages 5 & 6
Use your senses and your imagination to explore the world of nature. Activities include taking walks, playing games, feeding birds, singing along with the Banana Slug String Band, and finding out just what does live under a rock.
